5 At-Home Date Ideas to Spice Up Your Relationship
If you’re anything like us, six months at home has caused you to wrack your brain for new ways to make the same four walls seem appealing. Of course, this makes carving out time for dates with your partner extra challenging, especially when you have nowhere to go. By now, you’ve probably walked around your block together an untold number of times and video chatted with your couples friends frequently enough that it’s lost its appeal. To put the excitement back into dates with your partner, we created a list of our favorite unique date nights at home.
Play A New-to-You Board Game
At the beginning of quarantine, you probably got out an old, dusty puzzle or played a few rounds of Monopoly. These tried-and-true past times are great, but they can get boring pretty fast. Luckily, there’s a whole world of board games that exist outside your typical Scrabble game. Are you and your spouse wine connoisseurs? Try playing Viticulture, a board game where you play as winemakers competing to make the best bottles of wine. Alternatively, maybe you’ve heard friends and family talk about what an awesome game Catan is and want to try your hand at settling an uncharted island. Whatever your passions are, there’s a board game sure to pique both your interests and bring you hours of fun.
Attend A Virtual Event
While you might be over your typical Zoom call with friends and family, don’t overlook the numerous virtual events taking place right now. Many organizations are turning to online events to share their missions with a wider audience. Depending on what you’re interested in learning more about, you and your spouse can find an event that aligns what you care about on a local, national, or international level. Through our virtual membership, we have events that take you out of your living room and on a personalized walking tour of Paris or whiskey tasting complete with samples from the distillery, to name a few events. Not only will virtual events give you both something to do, but you’re also likely to learn something new about one another.
Plan A Picnic
Now that outdoor spaces are open in most areas, favorite parks, beaches, and hiking trails are often overcrowded with people trying to enjoy the sunshine. Crowds of people not only cause us to worry about our health, but they’re also not particularly conducive for romance. Instead of exploring the great outdoors far from home, take your picnic basket and head to your backyard. Spending a sunny afternoon on a blanket on your lawn with tasty snacks—that you won’t have to worry about keeping warm or cold—is a great way to look at your everyday scenery from a new perspective. Don’t have a backyard? Bring the picnic indoors by pushing your coffee table out of the way, dimming the lights, and enjoying your meal by candlelight on your living room floor. As an added bonus, you won’t have bugs getting into your food!
Start A Book Club for Two
Looking to connect on a deeper level with your partner? Start a book club for just the two of you. Book clubs lead to great conversations that can transcend the pages of the book. Begin by agreeing on a book that both of you are interested in. Your pick could be the latest non-fiction book you’ve both had your eye on or consider revisiting a favorite novel that you can share with your partner for the first time. It doesn’t matter what you read, just that you’re participating in this activity together and taking the time to have meaningful conversations about what you’ve read.
Go All Out On A Themed Day
Many couples have had to cancel their vacations this year due to travel restrictions. Instead of lamenting on not being able to get away, create your own vacation with a themed day. If you were planning on heading to Italy for a couple weeks this summer, bring the Italian culture to you with your favorite Italian foods (either homemade or purchased from your favorite Italian restaurant) and a double feature of Under the Tuscan Sun and The Godfather. Headed to a tropical island? Create your own signature beach-y cocktail and set up a beach umbrella in the middle of your backyard. Just don’t forget your sunscreen. While themed days won’t exactly replace your exciting vacation, they will bring a touch of what you're missing to your everyday life.
